“American-Soviet relations: lessons of responsible cooperation” – this is the topic of the 1-day International Conference which will take place in the Russian Embassy in the USA on November, 18. It is dedicated to the 100-year birthday anniversary of the former Ambassador and the Foreign Minister of the USSR Andrei Gromyko, celebrated in 2009 and organized by the joint efforts of the Russian diplomatic mission and the Kennan Institute by Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars located in Washington D.C. Among the speakers is the son of the Soviet Minister, the corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the Russian Federation Anatoly Gromyko and the former United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

On November, 16 the theme exhibition displaying the materials of the Archive of the Russian Federation foreign policy and the news in pictures provided by ITAR-TASS was opened in the Embassy. It reminded the participants about the events of the recent history and became the reason for meditations about the controversy of this period and its clue figures. No wonder that at the opening ceremony of the exhibition the Director of the Kennan Institute Bair A. Ruble confessed that he couldn’t have even imagined that he would celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Gromyko’s birthday in such a manner.

The Russian Ambassador in the USA Sergei Kislyak in his turn reminded that his famous predecessor had taken an active role in the foundation of the United Nations and the modern system of International security and stability. The diplomat emphasized that the whole world should have been grateful to Gromyko and his colleges who had prevented the “Cold War” from growing into a “Hot” one.
