Memory of Russia: Over 700 monuments to soldiers of the Great Patriotic War to be reconstructed in Altai

In 2009 791 monuments of the Great Patriotic War were reconstructed in Altai Krai. The project’s budget exceeded 14 million roubles.

All renovation works have been carried out within the framework of the departmental target program “Repairs and improvement of the Great Patriotic War monuments” for 2008-2010. Its goal is to preserve memorials and monuments, which immortalize perished people of the Great Patriotic War.

Many memorial obelisks were built in в 50-70’s of 20^th century. Therefore it’s high time to conduct restoration works, not just repairs. For these purposes the Altai krai appropriated 36 million roubles for the project.

Moreover 75 objects of cultural heritage in all the city districts and regional centers have been already reconstructed. The departmental program reinforced the work on military history monuments preservation in the municipal objects.
