Libraries of Russia: L. N. Tolstoy Tula Central City library celebrates 60th anniversary
Celebrations “Tradition of being useful. 60 years together”, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Tolstoy Tula Central City Library, took place in its reading room on Dec. 21.
The press service of Tula City Administration informs that the library annually welcomes over 13 thousand visitors. The fund of Tolstoy Central City library holds 264 thousand units. The library houses and receives about 40 newspaper and 200 magazine publications. Its special fund represents Tolstoy fund, books and other editions, dedicated to the City of Tula, works and editions of Tula authors.
This library was founded precisely 60 years ago – on Dec. 21 1949. In 1977, in commemoration of 150th anniversary of L. N. Tolstoy the library was named after this great Russian writer. A year later it initiated a literary club “Thursdays of Yasnaya Polyana”, which is still working. Since 1979 L. N. Tolstoy Central City Library has become a leading in the Municipal libraries’ network, united into the Tula Library Association.
