Presidential Library: Presentation of commentary to the Federal Law “On state language of the Russian Federation”

On December, 18 the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library held presentation of the commentary to the Federal Law “On state language of the Russian Federation”.

Among the participants of presentation were the President of the St. – Petersburg State University L. A. Verbitskaya, the dean of philology and arts department S. I. Bogdanov, the assistant professor of the law department N. S. Shatihina, the head of computer lexicography laboratory of philology and arts department by the Institute of philological studies G. N. Sklyarevskaya.

“Coffee” being a neuter noun, “yogurt” with a possible stress on both syllables is a mere top of the iceberg of problems, relevant to contemporary state of the Russian language”, - noted all the speakers.

Doctrinal and normative commentary to the Federal Law “On state language of the Russian Federation” contains a block of authors’ articles, which have a special focus on legal issues, dedicated to state language regulation in Russia and abroad, and a block of materials by paragraphs to the Law. This is a result of 2 years’ work of the St. – Petersburg State University specialists, which is going to become the tool of implementation of one of the most hot-debated laws nowadays.

This document like the complex normative dictionary of contemporary Russian language, which contains over 15 000 words and expressions, was firstly published as a pre-print in 200 copies. It was published in mass circulation after specialists had thoroughly studied the commentary and made critical comments.

The function was closed with a gratuitous transfer of the part of circulation to the Boris Yeltsin Presidential library.
