Memory of Russia: “Decembrist readings” in Irkutsk

“Decembrist readings” took place on December, 15 in Irkutsk. They are dedicated to Siberian exile of the participants of Decembrist Revolt in 1825. The function brought together scholars and students of local Universities, and pupils from different towns and regions of Transbaikal.

“We consciously attract the youth to study this period in the history of our country, – said the curator of the department of the regional historical memorial museum of Decembrists Alexander Chernyshev, – and focus their attention on the role of the “pioneers of Russian freedom” in the development of culture, education and productive capacity of the east of Russia”.

Over 100 participants of the Uprising on the Senate Square were sentenced to different terms to serve in Siberia.
