
IT and society: Dec.4 – The Day of Russian information technology
December,4 1948 – is the birthday of the information technology in Russia. In the late 40s’ I. S. Bruk, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in technical sciences department, member of the Power-Engineering Institute displayed a keen interest to the publications dedicated to the digital computers and became an active member of the scientific seminar, which discussed issues concerning computers’ automation.
In August 1948 together with his fellow the young engineer B. I. Rameev (later the famous constructor of computing machinery, the creator of “Ural” series) he submitted the draft project of the first electronic digital computer. In October 1948 he came up with a plan of introduction of the laboratory for digital electronic machine development and construction in the Academy of Sciences.
On December, 4 1948 the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the implementation of modern technologies in the National Economy registered the invention of the digital electronic computer by I. S. Bruk and B. I. Rameev under the number 10475. This was the first officially registered document concerning development of the computer technology in our country.
