President of Russia: "We will assist the voluntary resettlement of compatriots in Russia"

The Third Russian World Congress of Compatriots that focused on the problems of the former Soviet and Russian citizens abroad took place on December,1 in Moscow. The President of Russia Dmitry A. Medvedev welcomed representatives of Russian-speaking communities from 90 different countries.

The President of Russia declared that it was urgent to create a special mechanism for the protection and support of compatriots, special attention focused on the veterans’ organizations.

Dmitry A. Medvedev emphasized, that Russia, “our country would assist the voluntary resettlement of compatriots in Russia”. Today more than 17 thousands of compatriots and their family members have moved to Russia.

The President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev remarked, that the Amendments to the Federal Law on Russian Public policy towards compatriots abroad would be introduced on December,17. In his address at the Third Russian World Congress of Compatriots the President stressed that the Amendments would “clarify the concept of “compatriots abroad” and the very attitude towards the compatriots’ organizations abroad”.

The Head of the State also announced that more than 20 regions of the Russian Federation had already passed the bills aimed to provide support to compatriots abroad.
