Regions of Russia: Photo exhibition “Forgotten fortresses of XX c.” in Pechory

20 January 2010

The Pechora Central Regional Library is launching a photo exhibition “Forgotten fortresses of XX c.”

The photo exhibition has been created by the participants of the same project of the Izborsk museum-reserve. The author of an idea and poems: Yelena Voronkova. Photographs are by Alexei Starkov, Andrei Ivanov and Konstantin Bogdanov. The photo exhibition’s authors took a decision to change traditional annotations of photos and made their best to help the visitors see not just fortification works, but sensual images. The exhibition appears as a surprising combination of what seemed to be incompatible – military history of the mid. ХХ c. and traditional Japanese poetry-like poems, created during the work under the exhibition. Visual representation together with relevant poetry attracts interest to the destiny of silent witnesses of the past, and arouses a wave of personal images and feelings.

From spring 2009 the photo exhibition was displayed at the Izborsk museum-reserve, Ostrovsky local museum, and in the Palkino regional center. It has also traveled abroad – to the museum-reserve Zaslavl’ in the Republic Belarus.

Collaboration of the Izborsk museum-reserve with the Pechora Central Library allowed to make the exhibition available to the residents of the regional center as well. The photo exhibition in Pechory will be displayed till the late February 2010. Later it is said to be opened in Pskov and Sebezh.
