Libraries of Russia: Petrozavodsk library adopts e-tickets

The D. Ya. Gusarov Petrozavodsk Central City library has adopted the e-library ticket system.

On January,1 2010 one of the best city libraries launched the electronic library ticket system. The library has been moving towards this innovation for two years: it has bought the necessary equipment, created the electronic patrons’ database, prepared book collections for electronic scanning, while the library’s staff received necessary training.

From 2010 the library’s patrons receive a plastic library ticket with a personal number. The e-library ticket’s cost totals to 10 roubles.

The library’s staff claim that the implementation of the e-library ticket system saves patrons’ time and unloads the librarian. The readers themselves are also delighted with a new way of service providing.
