Bookcrossing is a practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise. The participant of the crossing registers himself and his own book, to be shared with other readers on special web sites. He provides information on where the book will be left: whether in the café, park or, for instance, in metro. The book usually contains a mark, which implies that this edition participates in bookcrossing. A person, who found the book, makes necessary notes on site that the book is not lost. There are no strict rules where to leave a book. For example, it may be a book lonely lying on the bench on a sunny day. Cafés’ and book shops’ owners usually have nothing against this kind of fancy. Some libraries even provide stacks for bookcrossing.

"The process of book transmission has currently acquired a number of attributes, peculiar for our computerized century. Having organized a specially equipped stacks, which display both fiction and technical literature, we are in the first place trying to promote reading among students, - reported the Director of the Scientific Library of the Belarusian Scientific Technical University Alexei Skalaban to the “Minsk-News” agency correspondent . – It is easier to achieve due to bookcrossing: students are carried away with this new phenomenon. What is more, nobody is limited by the lend period. These books are snapped up in two days. They are stocked by the books from private libraries of the fellows and gifts from different publishing houses".
