Archives: Unique archives of Vatican become a public domain

6 January 2010

Vatican has made new documents from its archives’ collection a public domain. Among them the complaint of Michelangelo, being dissatisfied with the delay of honorarium for the painting of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Another unique document is a 13th-century letter from the grandson of Genghis Khan to Pope.  In the letter, the Mongol emperor orders the pope accompanied by other European Kings to “pay service and homage to us”.

The new book “Vatican Secret Archives” contains 105 historical documents, 19 of them have been published for the first time. The book has already come out in Europe.
