Society and Church: Novodevichy Convent will be entrusted to the Russian Orthodox Church

The Novodevichy Convent will be entrusted to the Russian Orthodox Church in 2010, reported the Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin, announces RIA “News” agency.

“In 2010 we are planning to empty out the Novodevichy Convent and entrust it to the Church”, - reported Vladimir Putin on Tuesday at the meeting with the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, the Minister of Culture Alexander Avdeev and the Head of The Federal Agency for State Property Management Yuri Petrov.

Moreover the Prime Minister promised that in 2010 the government would provide financial assistance of 2 billions of roubles on the reconstruction of religious objects.
