Presidential library: Round table “Tikhvin monastery unveils history and development of church-state relations”

On February, 25 2010 the Boris Yeltsin Presidential library will hold a round table entitled “Tikhvin monastery unveils history and development of church-state relations”, which will mark the 450th anniversary of the Tikhvin Monastery of the Mother of God Dormition. Its organizers are going to display joint efforts of the Russian Church and the Russian State, brought in order to reconstruct old monuments, which had been destroyed during the Great Patriotic War.

Before the session its participants will take part in the excursion around the library, whereas the Church of Holy Fathers of Seven Ecumenical Councils will hold a church service. In the end of the event the participants will see the performance of the “Svetilen” choir of the Tikhvin monastery.

The participants of the round table will discuss a wide range of issues, among them possibilities of collaboration between representatives of church, governing bodies and public organizations. Other issues on the agenda are collaboration of ecclesiastical and secular power in the history of the Tikhvin monastery, contemporary church-state relations, cooperation in reconstruction works on the territory of the monastery complex.

The Tikhvin Monastery of the Mother of God Dormition was founded on February, 25 (12) 1560 by the order of the Tsar Ivan the Terrible. The Monastery holds an icon of the Mother of God of Tikhvin, which is worshipped by all Orthodox believers.
