Libraries abroad: Best libraries and museums of the USA recognized

On February, 22 best libraries and museums of the USA will be recognized in Washington DC. An annual award was initiated by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and is the nation’s highest honor for museums and libraries that make extraordinary civic, educational, economic, environmental, and social contributions.

Among 10 organizations being honored are the Braille Institute Library Services (CA), Children’s Museum of Pittsburg (PA), the Pritzker Military Library (IL), the Indianapolis Museum of Art (Indianapolis) etc.

Within the framework of Symposium community members and directors of the 2009 National Medal winning institutions are going to share compelling personal stories about the impact of these institutions.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 123,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Institute's mission is to create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and ideas. The Institute works at the national level and in coordination with state and local organizations to sustain heritage, culture, and knowledge; enhance learning and innovation; and support professional development.
