International Mother Language Day: “Lively word” program in Novosibirsk

The Novosibirsk Oblast Foundation “Native word” for Russian language preservation and development is launching a “Lively word” program. It will mark the International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated on February, 21. A series of lectures, highlighting urgent problems and aspects of the Russian language, will be mounted within the framework of the program in Novosibirsk.

Lectures are reported to be opened on February, 20 with an opening lecture of Leonid Panin, Doctor of Philology, professor at the Novosibirsk State University “A. S. Pushkin and Russian language”. It will take place at the Novosibirsk State Oblast Scientific library.

“The project “Lessons of Russian language” was for the first time launched 3 years ago. In order to improve grammar and arouse interest to Russian language we used to turn to visual aids, but today for the first time we are making use of a lively word”, – explained the foundation’s director Ludmila Monahova.

Within the year the program will mount series of lectures aimed both at the general public and specific professional groups: Mass Media workers, businessmen and teachers.

To mark the holiday, exhibitions of books and resources on Russian language will open at the city’s libraries. The Novosibirsk State University Scientific library will unveil expositions “Language creates the world”, “Contemporary Russian Language”, “Language speaks to God”. An exhibition “My Tsar! My slave! Mother language” will open at the Oblast Scientific Library on February, 20”.
