International Mother Language Day: “We read and sing in native language” campaign in Ulyanovsk

16 February 2010

“We read and sing in native language” campaign will take place on February, 18 from 12.30 to 15.00 in the Arts Department of Ulyanovsk Regional Library for Children and Youth, which will mark an International Mother Language Day.

Children aged 10-12 will enjoy an information journey “Languages of Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk krai”, which is aimed to familiarize them with national and cultural peculiarities of their native region. The campaign’s young participants will then recite literary works in the native language. Later the participants of the event will have a chance to enjoy folk songs in Russian, Tatar, Chuvash and Mordvinian languages, and view the national fairy tale. In the end of the event children will be asked which languages they are eager to study, and what they would like to wish their peers, who speak other languages.

The campaign’s mission is unification and consolidation of the nation from the young age.  It is aimed at broadening children’s outlook. And besides it will help to understand other people and accept that the foreign language is not a barrier in communication for those who really want to communicate. Moreover, it is a good chance to dwell on the genuine beauty of the native language, its depth and inner strength.
