Libraries abroad: “Digital Futures” training events

The University of Technology (Sydney) and King's College (London) are pleased to announce the “Digital Futures” training event, which focuses on the creation, delivery and preservation of digital resources. The “Digital Futures” will take place in Sydney (Australia) from 1 – 5 February 2010, and in London (UK) from 19 – 23 April, 2010. Digital Futures is aimed at managers and other practitioners from the library, museum, heritage and cultural sectors looking to understand the strategic and management issues of developing digital resources from digitization to delivery. The participants of the training event will discuss a wide range of topics. Among the core areas are:

- Planning and management;

- Fund raising;

- Understanding the audience;

- Metadata - introduction and implementation;

- Copyright and intellectual property;

- Sustainability;

- Implementing digital resources;

- Digital preservation.

There will be visits to institutions to see behind the scenes and receive expert presentations. For the London Digital Futures this will be the National Gallery and the National Archives. For the Digital Futures in Sydney this will be the State Library New South Wales.
