Regions of Russia: Library of National Cultures opens in Lipetsk

The Library of National cultures is opening on the basis of the library-information center № 4 in Lipetsk.

Several book exhibitions will mark its opening: “We live in Russia”, “Depository of traditions”, “A fairy tale as a guide to different cultures”. The “Poetic rainbow of near abroad countries” exhibition will unveil a unique book by Taras Shevchenko “Kobzar” in Ukrainian language.

The opening ceremony of the Library of National Cultures will bring together representatives of national diasporas, culture sector executives, public figures, journalists, teachers, local historians and readers.

According to Galina Burmistrova, Centralized Library System marketing manager, the Library of National Cultures will contribute to a keen interest to literary and cultural treasures of peoples of near abroad, as well as to the national traditions and customs, and promote a close friendship and mutual understanding between nations.

Many migrants live in the city of Lipetsk: its every 5th resident was born whether in other regions of Russia or foreign countries.

The opening of the Library of National Cultures became possible due to the campaign aimed at collecting books and articles of national decorative and applied arts. Among its active participants were not just residents of Lipetsk, but people from Vladimir and also from Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Abkhazia. Great support was rendered by the Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Jewish diasporas. Collected materials totaled over 1,000 prints: books, newspapers, magazines, maps, and postcards.

From February, 1 the Library will provide access to the electronic database of periodicals of CIS and Baltic states.
