IT and society: Safe Internet Week launched in Russia

On February, 2 Russia is launching a Safe Internet Week. This series of events is aimed at secure Internet use and children’ and adults’ protection from the threats of the Internet.

The Week is timed for the Safer Internet Day (February, 9), established by the European Commission in 2004, and takes place within 7 days, which precede this date. The Week’s organizers are the Regional Public Center of Internet Technologies (ROCIT) and the Safe Internet Center in Russia.

It is worth mentioning, that in 2009 the Safe Internet Week attracted 4 regions of Russia, whereas in 2010 organizations from 33 cities of Russia and 8 federal districts expressed wish to participate in the event.

Safe Internet Week is an official Russian participation in International events, which take place in order to mark the International Safer Internet Day in 50 countries worldwide under patronage of the European Commission. The Week’s program includes conferences, round tables, seminars, exhibitions, live telecasts with experts, presentations and contests.
