Regions of Russia: Rare book find in Omsk oblast

23 March 2010

The book by Joseph Stalin was discovered in the library’s repository of Tara. The edition of works by Joseph Stalin, issued within his lifetime, is the only one copy which survived since that time. After his death the whole circulation was destroyed. Whereas the book “Articles on Leninism” had been for a long time kept in the library’s basement.

Such editions represent a great historical value. In 50’s 20th c. works of the leader were withdrawn from public and private libraries of the Soviet Union. Thousands of volumes were burnt, and only a few remained. Today all these editions are museum’s rarities. And one of such books is now housed at the library in Tara.

"This book was a gift. Now we should find out, who brought the Stalin’s edition to the local repository and when did it happen", - Natalya Pastukhova, the senior librarian of the Reading Room of the Tara Library, said.
