Libraries of Russia: The round table “Russia-France. Through years and borders” opened at the National Library of Russia

The National Library of Russia and France have got strong historical and cultural ties. The funds of the National Library of Russia house the richest collections of French books and manuscripts, and even the world-famous Voltaire’s library.

On March, 22 the National Library of Russia is mounting a round table “Russia-France. Through years and borders”. Its primary focus is on publishing and book trading relations between the National Library of Russia and its partners in France, new acquisitions of French books to funds of the National Library of Russia.

The Library is also going to open a book-illustrative exhibition of contemporary French editions, which arrived to the National Library of Russia within 2000-2010. The exposition will display around 600 books of the major publishing houses of France, which represent milestones of the history of France.

Visitors of the exhibition will have a chance to familiarize themselves with memoirs, diaries of the representatives of the first wave of Russian emigration in France. The exhibits include works of Russian writers, historians, and philosophers. These documents are a unique historical material for researchers and historians.

The exhibition will release editions from the book collections “Rossika” and “Russian abroad”. Among them is the biography of Catherine II of Russia and other works, dedicated to the Russian history by the prominent French historian and political scientist specializing in Russian history Hélène Carrère d'Encausse.

The events are reported to attract the famous French writer, President of the International PEN Center in France (Le PEN Club de France), Alexandre Blokh.
