Reading promotion: Children Book Week to open in Moscow

The Children Book Week will be held during school spring holidays, from March, 20 to April, 4, at the A. S. Pushkin State Museum. This year the Week will take place not only in the main mansion of A. S. Pushkin Museum, but also in its new branch – the I. S. Turgenev Museum.

“Daily, diverse and rich program entitled “A travel to fairy tale”, is aimed at reading promotion. It familiarizes pupils with traditions and masterpieces of Russian fairy tales”, –  informed in the museum. “Infotainment interactive programs, designed by specialists of the Museum’s Children Center will bring kids to the world of famous  fairy tales of A. S. Pushkin and famous literary works”, – added in the museum’s press service.

Children are likely to enjoy Days in Moscow estate. The new interactive infotainment program of A. S. Pushkin and I. S. Turgenev Museums invites pupils from classes 5-7 and their parents to spend one day in the manorial estate of 19 c.

The program’s authors ask to speculate on the way of life of noble families in Russia, the way they brought up and gave education to their children, worked, travelled, and spent their leisure time. The program is based on works of Ivan Turgenev and facts of his biography. In the end of the program guests are going to watch the performance “Princess of the East” on the libretto of the operetta “Too many wives” by I. S. Turgenev. The performance has been created following the traditions of the home theatre of 19 c.

Young participants of other programs will familiarize themselves with the Old Slavic ABC, find out meanings of some outdated words. Together with characters of the fairy performance they are going to learn the Russian folk dance tune and take part in the performance based on “The Tale of the Priest and of His Workman Balda”.

At the program “The Tale of Tsar Saltan, of His Son the Renowned and Mighty Bogatyr Prince Gvidon Saltanovich, and of the Beautiful Princess-Swan” children together with their parents will remember, which fairy tales used to read A. S. Pushkin in his childhood, remember their favorite magic characters in old myths of Slavs, make a trip to the colorful world of illustrations, based on A. S. Pushkin fairy tales. In the end of the program the guests will enjoy the performance based on the fairy tale of the same name.
