Book publishing: Exhibition-fair “Books of Russia” mounted today
A traditional spring exhibition-fair entitled “Books of Russia” will for the 13th time in row open in the 57 pavilion of the All Russian Exhibition Center.
This year’s exposition will be held under the aegis of the 65th Victory anniversary in Great Patriotic War. The key date will be marked by the round table “Long routs of war, warm lines of Victory”, special book expositions, and an exhibition "The Great Patriotic War in posters". Publishers are going to display a wide range of books, dedicated to war, and memoirs of its participants. Music lovers will have a chance to enjoy the concert "Songs, which led us to victory".
The exhibition will also mark the 150th birthday anniversary of Anton Pavlovitch Chekhov by launching a large exposition of illustrations, made by Russian artists for the works of the writer, and holding round tables. A photo exposition will be mounted in celebration of another important date - 70th birthday anniversary of Joseph Brodsky.
The fair will bring together prose writers and poets. On the first day of the forum’s work the editor in chief of “Literary newspaper” (“Literaturnaya gazeta”) Yuri Polyakov, “Russian Booker” (“Russkiy Buker”) laureate Mikhail Yelizarov and Alexei Ivanov will familiarize the visitors with their new works. Participants of forum will be able to meet the writer Vladimir Orlov, and the playwright Edvard Radzinsky. Book publishers will discuss a wide range of problems of the book market, including "Digital present and future of Russian book".
The honored guest of this year’s exhibition is Astrakhan oblast, which is going to represent over 200 books, and also invite the fair’s visitors to join the “Culinary journey”. Guests will have a chance to taste diverse fish dishes at the oblast’s stand.
For the first time the exhibition will display a wide variety of Orthodox books, including rare handwritten copies.
Following the tradition the event will launch award ceremonies. An anti-prize "Abzats" (literally “Paragraph”) will recognize the worst work in the area of editing, proofreading and translation, whereas an extremely notorious publishing house will receive an award “Complete Abzats”. Within the framework of the fair laureates of the 6th All Russian Regional and Local History Literature Contest “Malaya rodina” (“Little Motherland”) will be also announced.
This year the fair is representing over 150,000 book titles, which will occupy an area of 10,000 square meters. The admission charge will remain the same: 50 rubles for adults, 25 rubles – for children. The exposition is open up to March, 15.
