In the near future new e-readers with faster speeds, color and video are going to appear, reports PCMag, which participated in the annual US Flat Panel Display conference, held by DisplaySearch.

The e-readers, which support video, unlike LCD tablets, are “pencil-thin” devices, are with much better battery life (several weeks) and a lot lighter, informs E Ink company, which produces displays. LCD tablets need to be held by two hands, but those using E Ink technology can be held in a single hand, making them better for note taking.

In order to preserve current qualities of e-readers and at the same time help the user view photos and video, the manufacturers concentrated their efforts on brand new technologies of information display. These technologies should provide higher speed of the picture updating, support high resolution, and at the same time keep the usual time of off-line work, claim in Qualcomm. One of the most promising technologies here is Mirasol.
