Internet resources: Runet recognized a leader of 2009 according to websites increase

In 2009 despite the world economic crisis the Russian Internet segment has increased 37%, announced the Director of the Coordination Center of the domain RU Andrei Kolesnikov at the press conference on March, 4. He added that Runet had managed to become the world leader according to the websites’ growth rate.

"In 2009 the increase in the number of .RU domains totaled 37%, unlike the expected growth rate of 24% taking into account the world crisis", - reported Mr Kolesnikov. He explained that despite the crisis Internet was becoming more mature, increasing the number of its users and websites". Mr Kolesnikov also highlighted the decrease of the domains’ growth rate as compared to 2008, when thas figure reached 60%. To date, according to the Coordination Center on the domain RU, Runet includes over 2 600 000 domains.
