Regions of Russia: Virtual exhibition on women soldiers mounted in Chuvashia

An electronic album entitled “I didn’t mean to display heroism, I just lived”, which marked the International Women’s Day and 65th Great Victory Anniversary, was unveiled in Chuvashia, informs the press service of the Chuvash Republic Administration.

This virtual exposition familiarizes visitors with photodocuments, dedicated to women – war veterans, who lived in the Republic.

According to the archival workers, only during the first year of the war around 19 doctors, 103 nurses, 327 medical orderlies from Chuvashia left for front, where they helped the soldiers to survive and return to front line.

The exposition tells the story of women-medics, who saved lives of many Soviet soldiers. Among them is the senior nurse at the military hospital Vera Zagrekova, senior lieutenant of the medical service Fyodora Gaikina. The exposition is also called to demonstrate contribution of women-pilots to the victory over the enemy. The virtual exhibition provides photodocuments about the Hero of the Soviet Union Zoya Parfyonova, Valentina Volkova, Yevgeniya Krutova, who perished during carrying out service.

All women-veterans have been awarded with many orders and medals.
