Russian language abroad: “Russian center” to open in Kiev

The opening ceremony of the Russian Center of the Russkiy Mir Foundation at M. Maksimovich Scientific Library of the Kiev State University (National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv) will take place on March, 4.  It will bring together an Executive Director of the Russkiy Mir Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov and Rector of the Shevchenko Kiev State University, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, PhD, Professor, Honorary Education Worker of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine — Leonid Hubersky. 

Among other participants of the event were famous politicians of Ukraine: Nikolai Azarov, Head of the Victor Yanukovich election campaign 2010, Party of the Regions member; Deputy of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Party of Regions and a famous political figure Dmitry Tabachnik; first Secretary of Communist Party of Ukraine and the head of the fraction of the Communist Party of Ukraine in Verkhavna Rada Pyotr Simonenko, and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Litvin.

The opening ceremony of the Russian Center will also attract prominent scientists. Among honored guests – cultural workers of Russia and Ukraine, in particular the poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko. Mikhail Zurabov, Ambassador of Russia to Ukraine, is also expected to attend the ceremony.

Opening of the Russian Center in the capital of Ukraine proves consolidation and development of humanitarian partnership between two countries. The “Russian Center” at the Shevchenko Kiev State University will become the main center of the Russkiy Mir Foundation in Ukraine.

Its mission is to demonstrate historical and cultural correlation between Russia and Ukraine, which can be illustrated by the biographies of great Ukrainians, who had lived and worked in Russia from 16th c. up to present days. A considerable library’s fund representing over 1000 storage units, which will be transferred to the Russian Center of the Taras Shevchenko Kiev State University, will help to provide the largest University of Ukraine with the latest editions, dedicated to Russia, its history, culture, art, and familiarize the readers with works of contemporary Russian poets and writers.
