
Russian language: Days of Russian language and Literature kick off in St. - Petersburg
On April, 21 the Russian Society of Teachers of the Russian language and Literature (ROPRYAL) jointly with the Institute of Russian language and Culture of the Department of Philology (St. – Petersburg State University) with a support of the Federal target program “Russian language” are launching Days of Russian language and Literature in St. - Petersburg. Their mission is popularization of Russian language and Russian culture among citizens of the Russian Federation.
The multifaceted program of the Days of Russian language and Literature includes round tables focused on problems of Russian language and Russian culture, seminars, lectures, master classes, exhibitions of academic books and editions for teaching. A seminar “Language of the youth and dynamic tendencies of contemporary Russian language” and a round table “Speech standards of Russian as a mirror of Russian culture" will take place on April, 21, whereas a master class entitled “Slang in daily life and public speech: how to react?” will be mounted on April, 22.
Andrei Bitov, prominent Russian writer, President of Russian PEN club, is going to deliver a public lecture on Russian language as a world’s language, which will kick off on April, 23 at the Department of Philology at the St. – Petersburg State University. The organizers call special attention to the essay contest, dedicated to Russian language, under the name “My vision of Russian language tomorrow”. The contest attracted residents of St. - Petersburg - journalists, Russian language and literature teachers, as well as students of philology departments.
Winners will be awarded valuable presents, including the main prize – a chance to join the Russian delegation as a member to the holidays of the Russian language and literature, to be launched in America, Europe, Africa and Asia in 2010 within the framework of the World Festival of Russian language. "Days of Russian language and literature" in St. – Petersburg will close on April, 23.
