The governor of Texas (USA) Rick Perry suggested traditional textbooks should be replaced with digital textbooks, announced KXAN-TV. He is going to bring the proposal before the 2011 legislature, if he wins at the upcoming election. His opponent is Democrat Bill White, who has long been an advocate of expanding broadband Internet access to schools.

Mr Perry says that textbooks get out of date quickly and that computer software and technology can take their place. Moreover, the governor hopes that latest technologies will help to cut expenses on education; though he did not represented a cost comparison between books and online educational materials.
