
Russian language abroad: Forum of Russian compatriots launched in the USA
The 3rd Forum of Russian compatriots in the USA was aimed at consolidation of the Russian language, business and cultural collaboration between Russian-speaking communities in the USA and Russia. It kicked off on May 28 and attracted the Russian Ambassador to the USA Sergei Kislyak, General Consuls of the Russian Federation, representatives of public, cultural, and religious associations of Russian-language communities in the USA.
Within the framework of the one-day forum delegates exchanged ideas on a number of urgent issues, brought into focus cooperation with Russia within historical, cultural and sport areas, prospects of the Russian Diaspora in the USA, first and foremost, prospects of the youth.
Participants of the forum highlighted the role of Mass Media in the life of the community of Russian compatriots.
A cultural program was prepared for the forum’s guests. It included the excursion around the Russian Center in San Francisco, where the meeting took place. The Museum of Russian Culture, the library and the publishing office of the "Russkaya zhizn" (“Russian life”) newspaper are also located at the center. A gala dinner and a concert were held at night.
