Regions of Russia: Congress of Slavic peoples kicks off in Ulyanovsk oblast

The first Congress of Slavic peoples of Ulyanovsk oblast was launched on May 27. It attracted 217 delegates from all oblast municipal formations, chosen at the meetings of Slavic community, as well as authorities, scholars, representatives of Diocese of Simbirsk and Melekes of the Russian Orthodox Church, students of universities, and journalists.

Two round tables, mounted at the V. I. Lenin museum-memorial, opened the work of the forum. Within the framework of the first round table entitled “Russian language as a language of international communication” participants highlighted key measures of popularization and promotion of the Russian language, as a language, which consolidates Slavic peoples of Ulyanovsk oblast and Russia. The second round table was called “Russian and Slavic cultural societies, ways of their consolidation”.  

As a result of the work of the Congress the Ulyanovsk public organization “Assembly of Slavic peoples of Ulyanovsk oblast” has been set up. It is responsible for coordination of activities of Slavic public associations within the territory of the region.
