Publishing: “Book World Prague - 2010"

Thirty-four countries represented their books at the 16th International Book Fair and Literary Festival “Book World Prague 2010”. It was opened in the Prague Exhibition Ground – the Industrial Palace. This unique monument of architecture, built in the beg. of 20th c. remains the platform for displaying  achievements of book publishing industry.

This year the list of permanent participants of the prestigious festival, which includes United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, entered South Korea – a new participant of the Prague exhibition. Guest of honor at the fair will be Poland, whose exposition will present the best and latest offerings from the Polish literary scene. Poland sent to the Czech capital its most prominent writers. Among them are – Olga Tokarzcuk who is well known to Czech readers, her colleague, an outstanding author of world renown - Dorota Masłowska, who gained her popularity as an author of bestsellers about the new Polish reality. The exhibition will be attended by Wisława Szymborska, Polish poetess, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996.

Poland is taking the baton from Russia, being the main exhibitor of the “Book World” last year. The Russian stand was then visited by the President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus, who gave a high praise for the quality of book printing and variety of represented editions.

This year’s Russian exposition also covers various interests. These are books dedicated to the Great Victory over Nazism, history of Moscow and Russia from ancient times to present days, religious and educational literature, encyclopedic and reference editions. One of the sections is timed to the Year of the Teacher in Russia. Young readers have not forgotten either, as the motto of the exhibition this year is “We grow with the book”.
