World history: Vatican unveils its Secret Archives

Vatican is revealing its Secret Archives. New documents are available in the book called “Vatican Secret Archives”. The Vatican Secret Archives is a repository of parchments and private popes’ correspondence, which cover more than a thousand of years.

Vatican decided to make a new set of documents including the ones related to the pontificate Pius XI a public domain, and also show the interior of the archives in the book of photographs “Vatican Secret Archives”, issued by the VDHbooks publishing company.

The book represents photographs and scanned copies of the most interesting documents. Among the rarities is a letter of Pope Pius XI to Hitler.

In 1881 by the order of the Pope Leo XIII the Vatican Secret Archives was partially opened for researchers, and until now among the available documents were the ones until the beginning of pontificate Pius XI, and also the fund “Prisoners of war 1939-1947” of the Vatican reconnaissance.
