For the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory: Media community of CIS against history falsification

23 June 2010

On June 22 in Moscow took place the conference titled ‘Victory anniversary! CIS media community against history falsification’.

According to its organizers, the main objective of the event was to attract the public attention in CIS to the efforts of falsification of the history of the Great Patriotic War. Among the participants of the forum held in the Great Patriotic War Central Museum at Poklonnaya Gora were representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, CIS, historians and other experts.

Persons implicated in falsification of the information regarding the Great Patriotic War must be made answered, said the Public Chamber of Russia Committee President for social and demographic policy A. Ochirova at the conference.

‘I believe that the time has come to make those who falsify the history of the Great Patriotic War answer officially to law, because their actions cause a serious damage to the image of Russia and sometimes inflict economic and geopolitical demands or contradictions’, - she said.

According to A. Ochirova, the problem of misrepresentation of historical truth became in recent times especially urgent. A. Ochirova thinks that if the responsibility for this kind of deed is ‘legalized’ it will contribute to preservation of the ‘memory of our ancestors’.

Aslambek Aslakhanov, member of the Federation Council who also attended the forum, has agreed with the Public Chamber of Russia Committee President.

‘We need to adopt laws if there are no other instruments of defense; only the authority of the criminal code is able to protect the memory, - commented the senator about the means of resistance to falsification.
