A public organization “Libraries Without Boarders” (BSF) has announced about its intention to provide hundreds of thousands of books to victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

BSF President Patrick Weil reported that the organization was going to set up mini-libraries and corners for reading right in the refugee camps, schools and universities.

BSF, which is distributing books on a charitable basis, launched its activities in Haiti before the earthquake, by bringing 30,000 editions to the country. However as a result of the natural disaster libraries were destroyed and many editions were lost. Now we have to start afresh again, told Patrick Weil.

BSF President also highlighted that the organization was planning to set up the first large digital library in Haiti, and also supply each department of the country’s State University with a selections of 500 books, until the University of Haiti’s Central library would be restored.

BSF, which has received a 750.000 euros prize from the French Academy (l'Académie française), is going to spend money in order to buy the equipment for libraries in Haiti. The organization currently continues collecting books within Europe and outside the country to help the suffered state, clarified its President.
