In Novgorod archaeologists excavated a rare seal, which belonged to the Rurik dynasty.
Lead seal (bull), which was attached to important documents in ancient times, was discovered in the Trinity (Troitsky) excavation pit, located in the historical center of the city to the south of the Kremlin.
Valentin Yanin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, supervisor of the Novgorod archaeological expedition, supposes that the seal belonged to one of the sons of the Novgorod Prince Yaroslav the Wise (977/978-1054) – Chernigov Prince Svyatoslav (1027-1076).
Scholars reckon that for some time the seal was being worn as a decoration around the neck.
