Education and society: Presidential Lycee for gifted children to open in St. Petersburg

The concept of creation of the Presidential Lycee for gifted children is being worked out in St. Petersburg.

We believe that St. Petersburg will host a new Presidential Lycee for our gifted children, said V. Matvienko, the city governor, at the Municipal Pedagogical Council meeting.

According to the governor, the Lycee will train the future scientific elite. Children will study exact sciences and information technologies.

At the joint meeting of the RF State Presidium Council, the Council on Science, Technology and Education and the Council on Culture and Art, RF President D. A. Medvedev approved the idea of creation of Presidential lycees in Russia.

Mr. Medvedev also noted that the work on support and search of gifted children is being carried out in Russia and it has already provided a quite interesting experience and concrete results.
