IT and Society: 11% of Russians made use of eGov services on Internet

“Public Opinion” Foundation has released the results of its new study regarding the users’ awareness about the work of electronic government of the Russian Federation and their needs for reaching government services via Internet.

40% of Russians are aware that public services are available via Internet, whereas 32% of respondents have heard of this service. Unlike the country’s population in total, as for Internet users in Russia, who surf the net at least once a month, 61% of them know about eGov services and 28% have heard something of them. That means that monthly Internet users are 52% more aware of offered opportunities.

11% of Russians made use of eGov services on Internet, other 26% of citizens would like to turn to them. In the 18–30 age category 20% of Russians turned to eGov services on Internet, in the category 31-45 there were 15% of such citizens, and 5% among people aged 46-60.

Among the advantages of electronic government are named: convenience, a chance to tackle many problems without leaving home (47%), time saving (28%), no necessity to stand in queues (15%).
