Regions of Russia: “Altai Krai – the new history” exhibition launched at the Altai Krai Universal Library

The exhibition “Altai Krai – the new history” timed to the 73rd foundation anniversary of Altai Krai took place on September 28 2010 at the Periodicals Division of the V. Ya. Shishkov Krai Universal Library. Its exposition covers legislative acts, publications which cast the light on the major achievements and promising projects which are currently being implemented in the region. Similar book exhibitions will kick off at many other libraries of Krai’s cities and districts. Altai Krai schools will hold class hours and other events, bringing into focus the history and the present day of Altai Krai.

One of the brightest festive events became the opening of the Museum Ethnic Festival called “We live in Altai”. It is an especially important event for Altai Krai, which is a home to representatives of about 140 peoples and nationalities. List of ten main ethnic groups which inhabit the territory of Altai Krai includes Russians, Belarusians, Germans, Armenians etc. To date there are 46 cultural organizations which are successfully operating in Altai Krai.

Ethnic Festival will take place at the Altai State Local Lore Museum from September 28 to October 9. It was opened by the presentation of the “Origins. National costume” exhibition. The exhibition project brought together over 20 municipal museums of Altai Krai. They represent several collections: examples and fragments of national costumes of peoples, who inhabited Altai in late 19th c. – first half of 20th c.; tools for clothes production; photographs, which captured the way of life of several peoples, articles of decorative and applied arts of modern masters.
