Memory of Russia: Open Weapon Storage Fund unveiled in Pskov

Presentation of the Open Weapon Storage Fund was launched on September 21 2010 in Pskov on the Day of the Military Glory of Russia. It put on display examples of armament of 16th-17th cc., first half of 20th c.

The history of the collection includes several periods, among them the most significant covers 1950s-1980s, when people of Pskov Oblast brought the discovered arms to the museum. Part of rarities was donated to the fund by the major Russian museums. In 1956 the State Hermitage Museum provided a collection of poleaxes, partisans etc. The collection includes a souvenir hatchet, which was in 1937 presented to Ilya Petrov, member of the volunteer fire-fighting society of Pskov. Two 17th c. poleaxes belonged to а famous Pskov architect-restorer M.I. Semenov and were donated to the museum by his grandson Mikhail Saleev.
