World libraries: New Multimedia library to appear in France
A project of the modern multimedia library has been recently approved in France. Multimedia Regional library (Bibliothèque Multimédia à Vocation Régionale (BMVR) will be set up in the north-west of France in Caen.
The innovative project of the library arouses keen interest both in regard to its location and exterior spaces of the building. It will be founded in the picturesque part of the city opening up to the park and waterfront plaza. In accordance with an approved plan the new library will include four protruding wings pointing towards four of the city’s landmarks: the abbeys Abbaye-aux-Dames in the north and Abbaye-aux-Hommes in the east; the central train station to the south; and the site of proposed future developments in the west.
The library will consist of two intersecting reading rooms, encouraging maximum interface between the programmed disciplines: human sciences, science and technology, literature, and the arts.
