Libraries of Russia: Books by Russian scientists donated to the provincial library of China

17 September 2010

The Far-Eastern State Scientific library of Russia has donated 41 volumes of academic books by Russian scientists to the Heilongjiang provincial library (the People’s Republic of China). These research works will be displayed to public during the upcoming national celebrations of the People’s Republic of China.

Original editions in the Russian language cover academic works by Russian scientists which turn the spotlight on the history of Khabarovsk, the library’s history and its catalogue.

"The books’ exchange project between two libraries has a long term aim, because people of China take a keen interest in the history of Russia, and Russian readers show an interest in the history of China", - explained Irina Filatkina, director of the Far-Eastern State Scientific library.

Books represent research works of Russian scientists which focus the reader’s attention on nationalities and the history of the Far-Eastern region, the province of Heilongjiang and the city of Harbin.

Since 1990 the library of Heilongjiang has received almost 400 books from Russia. To date the Chinese provincial library’s archive houses over 80 000 volumes in the Russian language.
