International events: Russian Book Festival in Helsinki

Within the framework of the Helsinki Book Fair on October 28 2010, Helsinki is opening the Russian Book Festival.

Festival’s organizers promise expositions of Russian publishing houses as well as meetings with authors and publishers from Russia to be launched at the Russian Center of Science and Culture.

The festival follows the main theme of Helsinki Book Fair “An Event of Thousand Tales”. Series of events are intended for children, young adults and are focused on mystique, fairy tales and fantasy genre.

On the festival’s second day, called “The Day of Kalevala”, will be put on display a new edition of this Karelian-Finnish epic poetry. On the third day Professor Alexander Kulinsky, Chief-Curator, Custodian of the Department of Edged Weapons, the Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, will meet with readers, whereas the lovers of children literature will have a chance to familiarize themselves with the oldest St. Petersburg publishing house “Detgiz”, which is marking its 77th foundation anniversary.

The Russian Book Festival in Helsinki will close on October 31. Following the tradition its last day will turn the spotlight on the Russian literature abroad.
