Regions of Russia: Presentation of the book “Saint Great Martyr Anastasia” launched in Yaroslavl
On October 15 2010 the Yaroslavl Art Museum launched a presentation of the Russian edition of the book entitled “Saint Great Martyr Anastasia. The Holy Image and Temples in Europe”, which was first published in 2009, Italy, in Italian.
The project “Saint Anastasia – the Hope for Peace” had been highly appreciated by His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexei II, Academician Dmitry Likhachyov, UNESCO, European Council, and cultural institutions of a number of countries, including Russia. The book is a result of twenty-year searches and discoveries of the author Pyotr Sergeevich Chakhotin focused on the Christian martyr. The book encompasses over 550 photographs of temples and monuments of sacred art – frescos, icons, paintings on canvas and fabric, sculptures, reliquaries and bells related to Saint Anastasia the Healer. The highlight of the Russian edition are reproductions of 56 Byzantium and Russian icons of Saint Anastasia from collections of Russian museums.
The book was firstly presented in June 2010 at the State Hermitage. Later on June 22-23 within the project’s framework the third International conference dedicated to Saint Great Martyr Anastasia was held at the State Museum of the History of Religion. The conference was attended by speakers from Russia, Italy, Serbia and Germany.
As to its content the book represents a unique reference edition, which will arouse interest among researchers of humanities: art critics, art and religion historians, and priests.
