Regions of Russia: Orthodox culture of Siberia becomes the focus for the seminar in Omsk

The Second Scientific Seminar “Orthodox Culture of Siberia. Historical, Ethnographical and Archeological, Art-Historical and Cultural Aspects of Research” was launched at the Omsk M.A. Vrubel Oblast Museum of Fine Arts under the patronage of Omsk Oblast Ministry of Culture on October 5 2010.

The seminar aims to bring together all the researchers who are involved in study of the Orthodox culture of Siberia and enable them to share the results of their latest research with their colleagues. It will attract archeologists, art historians, ethnographers, culture experts, historians and specialists of museums of Omsk, Tobolsk, Tyumen, and Pavlograd (Republic of Kazakhstan).

Exploration of the territory of Siberia and Far East by Russian population happened hand in hand with dissemination of Christianity in these lands. These days the revival of the Orthodox culture plays a significant role in the life of Siberian region. Thus, in Omsk the Achair Convent of the Lord’s Life Giving Cross has been restored, one of the largest cathedrals in Siberia — the Nativity of Christ Cathedral has been erected, the Dormition Cathedral has been restored, the foundation stone of the Resurrection of Christ Church has been laid, archeological research are being carried out in the town of Tata.
