World history: Researchers aim to consolidate Holocaust archives into a single online database
In the near future all the details of the history of Holocaust in Europe will be consolidated into a single online database. Researchers from 11 EU Member States as well as Israel and Norway will jointly create a database and bring together all the available information on Holocaust for researchers, educators and students who seek to understand the history of modern Europe. The joint project is supposed to span 4 years.
The European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) project will bring together the materials, currently housed at 20 archives. Historical documents, as well as eyewitness accounts of that time, kept until now at museums, universities and libraries, will now be united into a central database. Later this online database will be accessible to everyone all over the world.
The project is backed with 7 million funding from the European Union. The EHRI project’s headquarters will be located in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam. The project will be implemented under the patronage of Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Council.
