IT and Society: E-Books to win a quarter of market by 2015
French researchers, who have polled readers from six countries, have released a forecast on how the e-Book and e-Reader market would develop.
Patrick Béhar and Laurent Colombani have conducted a study of 3,000 consumers in six countries - United States, South Korea, Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, and France - to understand the impact of digital reader devices on readers' behaviors. The results of the study are the following: between 15% and 20% of the global population will be using a digital reader, tablet or other comparable device by 2015, whereas e-Books will represent up to 25% of the book market.
The United States and Korea are more likely to see a rapid shift, with 20% - 25% of books read digitally in 2015 compared to 5% in 2010. Countries such as France will shift more gradually as digital reading reaches 15% of the market.
According to researchers, by 2015 iPad and other tablet computers will win from two thirds up to three forth of the devices’ market, which will be used for reading books in electronic format. Share of e-Readers is expected to amount to one third of the market.
