Museums: Exhibition “Russian historical portrait. Engraving of 18th c.” mounted in Moscow

On November 16 2010 the State Historical Museum in Moscow opened an exhibition entitled “Russian Historical Portrait. Engraving of 18th c.”

The exhibition is being held within the framework of the “Russian Historical Portrait” cycle. The Historical Museum collection of prints, which in the beginning of 20th c. was enriched by famous collections of A.P. Bakhrushin, A.A. Vasilchikov, P.Ya. Dashkov, P.I. Shchukin, M.N. Pokhvisnev, gives an opportunity to follow the developmental stages of portrait genre in the Russian art, revive in memory the images of monarchs and members of their families, representatives of noble families, scientists, artists, military leaders, and public figures.

The exposition features three chronological sections corresponding to the time of Peter the Great, middle of 18th c. and epoch of Catherine II.
