Russian language abroad: Festival of Russian language opens in Tallinn

The Fourth Festival of Russian language, organized by the Russian Center of Pushkin Institute (Tallinn) and ESTAPRYAL (the Estonian Association of Teachers of Russian language and Literature) kicked off on November 12 2010 in Tallinn (Estonia).

The festival attracted 250 participants from the schools of Tallinn, Pärnu, Haapsalu, Paldiski, Tartu, Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Kohila, Viljandi, Tabivere, Kohtla-Järve representing 62 schools of Estonia.

Following a tradition, the festival’s aim is an informal forum of gymnasium students from Russian and Estonian schools conducted in the Russian language, joint participation in competitions and quizzes focused on the knowledge of Russian language and culture of Russia.

All participants of the event were awarded certificates and mementos, while every teacher received the first Russian language textbook in Estonia intended for Russian–speaking children. The “Tere, Russian language!” textbook was published with support of Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The festival is the most mass event of Estonia, dedicated to Russian language. It is held with support of the Russian Embassy in Estonia, Ministry of Culture of Estonia and Russkiy Mir Foundation.
