Libraries of Russia: Conference “Modern reader: evolution or mutation?” held in St. Petersburg

The All-Russian scientific and practical conference entitled “Modern reader: evolution or mutation?” is being held at the main building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) on November 10-11 2010.

The conference aims to examine the reader as a participant of the literary process, address theoretical and methodological aspects of studying the readers, individual’s reading activities in different situations.

Participants of the conference are discussing a wide range of issues, concerning a modern reader – evolution of the term “reader”, problems of interaction of the reader with writers, publishers, librarians, interaction between the readers.

The conference has been organized by the National Library of Russia, the Reading Center of the National Library of Russia, the Russian Library Association, the Interregional Center of Library Cooperation, the non-profit “Pushkin Library” Foundation, the Scientific Center for the Book Culture History Studies under the Association “Izdatelstvo “Nauka” of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
